Roberto verino
This highly respected label, created in 1982 and synonimous with quality, has made ROBERTO VERINO an irrefutable reference for the best “Made in Spain” fashion.
The search for excellence in the design and the quality of the fabrics, combined with an elegant, feminine and always provocative look, are Roberto Verino’s guidelines. This world famous designer was born in Verín (Galicia) in 1945 and studied Fine Arts in Paris, where he resided during the sixties. After designing several collections for Billy Bonny, Roberto Verino returned to his homeland with the responsibility of launching the French firm in Spain. In 1982, he created his first collection under his very own label, Roberto Verino, and in 1983, he opened his first store in Paris at 33 Rue de Grenelle, thus becoming the first Spanish designer (except for Balenciaga) to have a sales point in the “City of Light”. In 1984, he presented his first fashion show in Pasarela Cibeles and in 1987, he began to sell his collections in the “Boutique Internacional” of the leading Spanish department store chain, “El Corte Inglés”. In 1997, he expanded his fashion proposals to include the Roberto Verino Men’s collection and in 2004, the Accessories collections. His long and brilliant career has been distinguished with many prominent awards, such as the “Aguja de Oro” (1992), three “T de Telva” (1991, 1994 and 1995), the “Prix d’Excellence” of Marie Claire (2002) and the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes (2008), among others.
Such top models as Christy Turlington, Helena Christensen, Olatz López Garmendia, Yasmeen Ghauri and Cordula Reyer have starred in some of Verino’s most legendary campaigns, which were immortalized by great photographers like Javier Vallhonrat and Jacques Olivar. Monica Belluci and Iman have also modeled his fashions in his shows. He celebrated his 25th anniversary with the exhibition “Roberto Verino. 25 years of Fashion” in September of 2007 in the Madrid’s Museo del Traje and in March of 2008, in New York’s The Gabarron Foundation, both with great critical success and record public attendance. In 1999, he founded together with Jesús del Pozo, Antonio Pernas, Angel Schlesser and Modesto Lomba, the “Asociacion de Creadores de Moda de España”. Today, Roberto Verino continues to be loyal to another of his basic principles: Innovation. In 2016, he became the first Spanish designer to adopt the latest international trend of “See Now, Buy Now”. That is, he presents in his shows, the current seasonal collection with fashions which are immediately available for purchase in the stores, thus attending to the needs and lifestyle of his customers in today’s society. A staff made up of four hundred people, one hundred and eighty sales points, an on-line store which is becoming increasingly more essential, a presence in Portugal and México and an ambitious project for renovation and international expansion are just some examples of the very promising future which lies ahead for this brand name.
